The Trip, The Plan, The Purpose. A message from Mike & Evan Doan.
The last few months of 2008 were difficult for our family. Our father, Dale Doan, was diagnosed with Leukemia was admitted to VGH in late November. He is currently undergoingchemotherapy. Every day that we visit, we are delighted to see that our father is being cared for by an amazing team of doctors and nurses. We see how past research has brought us to this point, where patients' comfort is maximized and mortality rates are reduced. But we also see that there is so much room for improvement! Evan and I plan to make 2009 a year to remember by giving something back to the research community! We have planned a 6-week, 3198km, marathon bike ride from Vancouver to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We are pledging to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada and awareness about how critical it is to donate blood to The Canadian Blood Services. The ride will start June 11st and end mid July. Evan and I really want to raise some cash, setting a goal of $20,000 dollars (Thanks to many very generous donations, we have far surpassed our original goal of $10,000).We have asked The White Rock Rotary Club Peace Arch, The White Rock Mayors Office, The Peace Arch News, Community Natural Foods Calgary, and a half dozen other South Surrey/White Rock/Vancouver businesses ranging from Community Markets to Law Offices and Accountants to support our pledge boxes and run articles for us. Links to these businesses and, our sponsors, and most importantly, where to donate, are all found on the home page of our website!! Please feel free to look around! We will be updating our blog, posting photos, videos and trip info and giving you all the info you will need to donate $$ or give blood! THANKS! Mike and Evan Doan.
